What is a dry-fire system?
Dry fire is a technique at the range or at home that anyone can practise! Dry firing is merely the practise of shooting a firearm in the chamber without ammunition. The trigger is pulled by the user, the hammer drops, but nothing occurs. That sounds pretty boring, huh? Incorrect! You’ll be a proponent for life once you see how well dry firing your gun can improve your accuracy!
Are you looking to get more practise with your gun, but don’t want to go to the firing range or spend money on ammo? The trick may be practising with laser cartridges that fit into your actual weapon. You get to use your real trigger and also see where you strike instantly, without going to the range or wasting money on ammo. A great option if you’re unable to leave your home, or short on cash for ammo on the shooting range.
Which system should I buy?
There are a multitude of dry-fire systems available on the market, and you should be able to pick up laser cartridges from your ammunition store. Dry-fire systems range from simple cartridges that you “load” into your gun and practise shooting at a target on a wall to high-tech systems that you can control using your smart phone or device. Let’s look at some of the options available so you’ve got an idea of which kind of dry-fire system would suit you best.
LaserHIT is one of the more modern options available, and it includes the use of your TV and smartphone, as well as your regular laser cartridges. You can build and maintain muscle memory between shooting range visits, and the great thing about it is the weight, the grip, the sights and the trigger pull will remain the same as firing a regular bullet.
How it works:
- Load your firearm with a laser training cartridge (laser bullet).
- Take aim at the LaserHIT paper target and pull the trigger.
- The cartridge will fire a short red laser dot at the target.
- LaserHIT mobile app running on your phone or your tablet will track your shots on the target and display your hits.
- You will see each of your shots on your phone in real-time with realistic shooting sound effects.
Laserlyte is like many other dry-fire ammo laser cartridges you’ll find on the market. Like an ordinary cartridge, just insert the laser training cartridge device into the chamber. The firing pin triggers a switch when you pull the trigger, which switches on the bright red laser dot to show the “bullet” impact point. Every time the firing pin reaches, it triggers for 100 milliseconds. Use it to “call the shots” with the training target sold below on any regular target or, for a more immersive experience. When you rack the slide, the rimless housing prevents the LTS from being removed and ejected, ideal for tap/rack/bang malfunction exercises.
Depending on how high-tech you’d like your dry-fire experience to be, it’s all about finding a system that works best for you.
